Türk–İngiliz İlişkilerinin Hafızası 175 Yıl Sonra Londra’da

Küresel Gazeteciler Konseyi’nin her yıl uluslararası ölçekte gerçekleştirdiği Küresel Ödüller Töreni ve Sergisi, bu yıl Londra’da düzenlenecek. Program kapsamında hazırlanan “Dostluğa Açılan Sayfalar – Belgelerden Hayata Türk–İngiliz İlişkileri” sergisi, 1 Ekim 2026’da Arundel House – Six Temple Place’te açılacak.

Sergi, Osmanlı döneminde İngiltere’de gerçekleştirilen sergilerin ardından yaklaşık 175 yıl sonra Londra’da açılan ilk Türk sergisi olması bakımından tarihî bir önem taşıyor.

Türk–İngiliz ilişkilerinin diplomasi, basın ve toplumsal hafıza eksenindeki tarihsel yolculuğunu Türk ve İngiliz arşiv belgeleri ve gazete kupürleri üzerinden anlatan sergi, Prof. Dr. Osman Kubilay Gül’ün arşiv koleksiyonundan seçilen eserlerle, Dr. Özgenur Reyhan Güler’in küratörlüğünde hazırlandı.

Sergi; iki ülke arasındaki köklü ilişkileri basının ve ortak hafızanın tanıklığıyla yeniden görünür kılmayı, geçmişten bugüne uzanan dostluk bağlarını kültürel diplomasi aracılığıyla gelecek kuşaklara aktarmayı amaçlıyor.

Küresel Gazeteciler Konseyi Genel Başkanı Mehmet Ali Dim, ödül töreni ve serginin önemine ilişkin şu değerlendirmede bulundu: “Küresel Ödüller buluşmasını bu yıl Londra’ya taşırken, yaklaşık 175 yıl sonra böylesine anlamlı bir sergiye ev sahipliği yapmak bizim için ayrıca kıymetli. Gazeteciliğin yalnızca bugünü kaydetmediğini, toplumların ortak hafızasını ve ülkeler arasındaki dostluk köprülerini de geleceğe taşıdığını göstermek istiyoruz.”

Londra’da açılacak bu özel sergi, Türk–İngiliz ilişkilerinin geçmişten bugüne uzanan hafızasını yeniden görünür kılarken, kültür, diplomasi ve gazetecilik üzerinden kurulan dostluk bağlarına da yeni bir sayfa açacak.

The Memory of Turkish–British Relations in London 175 Years Later

The Global Journalists Council’s (GJC) Global Awards Ceremony and Exhibition, held annually on an international scale, will take place in London this year. As part of the programme, the exhibition “Pages Opening to Friendship – Turkish–British Relations from Documents to Life” will open on 1 October 2026 at Arundel House – Six Temple Place.

The exhibition carries particular historical significance as it is the first Turkish exhibition to be held in London in approximately 175 years, following the exhibitions organised in Britain during the Ottoman period.

Tracing the historical journey of Turkish–British relations through diplomacy, the press and collective memory, the exhibition presents archival documents and newspaper clippings from both Turkish and British sources. It has been curated by Dr. Özgenur Reyhan Güler, featuring selected materials from the archival collection of Prof. Dr. Osman Kubilay Gül.

The exhibition aims to make the long-standing relations between the two countries visible once again through the testimony of the press and shared memory, while conveying the bonds of friendship that have developed from the past to the present to future generations through cultural diplomacy.

Mehmet Ali Dim, President of the Global Journalists Council, highlighted the significance of the awards ceremony and exhibition, stating:

“As we bring the Global Awards gathering to London this year, it is especially meaningful for us to host such a significant exhibition approximately 175 years later. We want to demonstrate that journalism does not merely document the present; it also carries the shared memory of societies and the bridges of friendship between countries into the future.”

This special exhibition in London will bring the historical memory of Turkish–British relations from the past to the present back into focus, while opening a new page in the bonds of friendship built through culture, diplomacy and journalism.
